NHK Demonstrates Next-Generation Broadcasting Format
November 11, 2005
NTT AJapanese NHK recently demonstrated a next-generation broadcasting format, called Super Hi-Vision, which during tests proved capable of delivering broadcasts of 7680 pixel x 4320 pixel image quality over a fiber optic network covering 260km. NHK developed a Super Hi-Vision camera which is equipped with an 8MP CCD sensor and can take 4000 pixel x 8000 pixel images. During the test, the 24Gbps transmission rate of the signals was made approximately seven times as fast through the DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplex) system, reaching around 161.5Gbps.
